NPA Lagos International Polo Tournament

 

The Lagos International Polo Tournament is a major event in the Nigerian social calendar. It is arguably the biggest polo event in Africa. The quality of polo played during the tournament can be said to be one of the best on the continent. It attracts a mix of local professionals and amateurs playing alongside world-renowned professional polo players from Argentina, The United Kingdom, South Africa and other nations. The tournament is usually hosted over a 2-week period.

Description: Low to High Goal Polo in February/March

Majekodunmi Cup:                    +13 and above

Lagos Open Cup:                         +8 to +12

Lagos Low Cup:                           +3 to +7

The Silver Cup:                            -2 to +2

Captains Cup

Captains Cup

 

The Captains Cup is the first tournament of the season. This low goal tournament is a great warm up for players, horses and even guests as a new season kick starts. Teams are named after past captains of Lagos Polo Club and made up of playing members. This tournament is known to set a positive tone for the season.

Description: Low Goal (+2 to +4) played in Late November/December

The Santa Gold Cup

The Santa Gold Cup

 

The Santa Gold Cup is traditionally played on Boxing Day by playing members only. The tournament is a favorite during the festive season as it attracts a great turn out of family, friends and enthusiast.

Description: Low Goal (-2 to +2) Played on 26th December (Boxing day)

President’s Cup

President’s Cup

 

This tournament is usually played after the Lagos International Polo Tournament. Characterized by high-octane polo played at a time in the season when horses and players at their peak. The teams are named after past presidents of the club.

Description: Low Goal (+2 to +4) played in Late March.

Windmill Trophy by Millfield School

Windmill Trophy by Millfield School

The Windmill Trophy was donated to Lagos Polo Club by Millfield School many years ago. The idea behind this tournament was borne out of the club’s strong desire to encourage our budding youngsters who are playing top class polo in various schools all over the world especially in England. We are also proud to say some are currently playing at the Millfield School. It is a special weekend set aside for our children, youths and family.

Easter Cup  

Easter Cup  

The Easter Cup is the grand finale of the polo season as it ushers in the rainy season, which signals the end of Polo in Lagos. Playing members keenly contest this Low Goal Tournament over the Easter weekend.
